We are proud to be announcing the 2016 Pangaea Prize winners and finalists. We have two runners-up this year. We published both of their entries which means we have 3 collections being published for this contest. Go to the site and check out some great collections along with a selection of our finalists.

Congratulations to Lauren Henley for winning the 2016 Pangaea Prize. She is the winner of the 2017 Perugia Press Award and the poems appearing on The Poet’s Billow are from her unpublished book called Whole Night Through. Check them out!

“Over the past few years, the art world has been throwing around the term “post-Internet” to describe the practices of artists who use the Web as the basis for their work but don’t make a big deal about it. For these artists, unlike those of previous generations, the Web is just another medium, like painting or sculpture. Their artworks move fluidly between spaces, appearing sometimes on a screen, other times in a gallery. A JPEG of a painting is often considered another version of a painting, and vice versa.” –Kenneth Goldsmith

Poetry Contest Deadline Approaching: Bermuda Triangle Prize

The Poet’s Billow, an organization dedicated to increasing the exposure of poetry, is accepting submission for the Bermuda Triangle Prize – the deadline is March 20^th.

The Bermuda Triangle Prize is given to three poems on a theme from up to three different poets.

Current Theme: Space

We are open to interpretations on the theme. It is up to you how literal or abstract you would like to play on the chosen theme.

Each winning poem will receive $50, for a total cash prize of $150. The poems will be published and displayed in the Poet’s Billow Literary Art Gallery and nominated for a Pushcart Prize. If the poet qualifies, the poem will also be submitted to The Best New Poets anthology.

Submit now. We have already started reading entries and hope to announce a winner by the middle of April.

Recently, Nate Silver, the statistician who has become famous for the accuracy of his analyses of polling data, has weighed in on the inexorable decline of the humanities, and has found, using “numbers” and “arithmetic,” that “the relative decline of majors like English is modest when accounting for the increased propensity of Americans to go to college.”

“In fact, the number of new degrees in English is fairly similar to what it has been for most of the last 20 years as a share of the college-age population,” Silver said.
